From dramatic headlands to redwood forests, the Mendocino landscape continues surprising us with its beauty. Truly, we're fortunate to call it home! In this journal, we share some of our favorite state parks where we spend our days off hiking rocky trails, combing beaches for jade or spotting gray whales during migration season.
MacKerricher State Park
This park stretching along headlands from forest to sea provides prime whale watching and habitats for rare plants. MacKerricher offers beautiful beaches perfect for exploring, as well as an enjoyable boardwalk with incredible ocean outlooks.
Mendocino Headlands State Park
Dramatic coastal cliffs and rock formations draw visitors. The park boasts easy access and parking to experience magnificent views. Optional rocky paths allow adventurous hikers to access unobstructed vantage points.
Russian Gulch State Park
Situated near Mendocino, this verdant park charms with wildflower-filled overlooks of the rugged headlands. An incredibly scenic overhead view of the Highway One bridge delights visitors.
Point Cabrillo Light Station State Historic Park
Such a breathtaking sight, isn't it? Restored early 20th century lighthouse and auxiliary buildings provide a glimpse into Mendocino’s maritime past. The museum and historic houses can be toured for free, with donations welcomed.
Van Damme State Park
Best known for its unique Pygmy Forest and picture-perfect Fern Canyon, Van Damme delights hikers with a gorgeous walk along the Little River, which winds under ten bridges, surrounded by ferns, wildflowers and towering trees.
The endless inspiration we draw from Mendocino’s raw natural beauty and heritage infuses Cucina Verona’s seasonal Italian cooking. After beachcombing Van Damme coves or gazing at historic Point Cabrillo Light Station, we hope you’ll join us back in Fort Bragg to continue immersing in the flavors of this special place — through just-caught seafood, small-farm produce and local wines paired perfectly with your favorite pastas, risottos and more.
