Friday, March 14 – Welcome Ceremony for the Whales
Join community members, whale scientists, and ocean enthusiasts as we greet and thank the whales for being our magnificent neighbors. Enjoy musical offerings, a meaningful sunset ceremony, and heartfelt words of gratitude from various community members as we kick off the whale season. This inspiring event takes place at Crow’s Nest Fort Bragg Headlands from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM and is free for everyone.
Saturday, March 15 – 37th Annual Whale Run & Fun Walk
Participate in a breathtaking race and fun walk along Fort Bragg's coastal trail. This popular event includes a Kiddie Race, 10K Run, 5K Run, and 5K Fun Walk. Hosted by Soroptimist International of Fort Bragg and Noyo Sunrise, it starts at 8:30 AM. Don't miss the sign-up deadline on March 9.
Saturday, March 15 – Chowder Tasting Competition
Start your day tasting chowder from local eateries and voting for your favorite as this beloved event returns during Whale Fest Weekend. Join us from 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM (or until chowder runs out) at the City Hall gymnasium on Laurel & Franklin Streets in downtown Fort Bragg.
Saturday, March 15 – Whale Tale Trail
Explore MacKerricher State Park's "Whale Tale Trail" to scout for spouts! Visit the "Cetacean Stations" to learn about the Eastern Pacific Gray Whale and the significance of the Whale Festival. These ADA-accessible trails welcome all, with walks from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM. Donations to MendoParks are appreciated.
Saturday, March 15 – Downtown Wine Walk
Savor beautiful wines and hors d'oeuvres from over a dozen Mendocino County wineries while exploring Fort Bragg’s quaint downtown. Whale watching is a must along the coastal trail, with tickets available for the Wine Walk from 12:00 PM to 3:00 PM.
Saturday, March 15 – Fort Bragg Rotary Beer Fest
Enjoy a lively atmosphere at the annual Rotary Beer Fest with live music and BBQ at Eagles Hall. Sample craft beers, meet brewmasters, and have a fantastic time from 12:00 PM to 4:00 PM. This event is for attendees over 21 only, with free bus rides provided.
Saturday & Sunday, March 15 & 16 – Town Hall Craft Fair
Discover an array of handcrafted items at two craft fairs — both indoor and outdoor. Whether you're looking for unique gifts or personal treasures, explore offerings from quilts and pottery to jewelry and paintings at Town Hall from 10:00 AM to 5:00 PM.
Saturday, March 15 – Mendocino Whale War Panel & Discussion
Attend a panel discussion on the Mendocino Whale War of 1976 at the Kelley House Museum from 4:00 PM to 5:30 PM. Learn about whale conservation efforts and snag a vintage Save the Whales t-shirt. Tickets are $7 for members and $10 for non-members.
Saturday, March 15 – MacKerricher Whale Festival Campfire Program
Join California State Park Interpreters for an evening of songs and stories around the campfire. Enjoy s’mores and hot cocoa while learning about the festival from 6:00 PM to 7:00 PM at MacKerricher State Park's Campfire Center.
Saturday & Sunday, March 15 & 16 – Symphony of the Redwoods Spring Concert
Enjoy orchestral masterpieces with the theme of water, including the American Premiere of Alexis Aranda’s “Acqua.” Performances are at Cotton Auditorium on Saturday at 7:30 PM and Sunday at 2:00 PM.
Sunday, March 16 – Mendonoma Whale & Seal Study
Join Scott and Tree Mercer at the Crow’s Nest for whale spotting and insights into these magnificent creatures. Explore marine science exhibits from 10:00 AM to 2:00 PM at Noyo Headlands South Trail.
Sunday, March 16 – MacKerricher Whale Skeleton Painting
Contribute to preserving history by painting the gray whale skeleton at MacKerricher State Park. Enjoy cocoa and learn about these fascinating bones from 11:00 AM to 3:00 PM. This free event invites everyone to participate.
